This week was a fun week because we pretended to be pirates which also happens to be our theme. We talked about what we know about pirates and if they are good or bad. Some of the children said that pirates are bad because they steal treasure from other people and it’s not nice to take things from people. We talked about the funny things pirates say and we described what kind of ship they would sail on. Speaking of pirates as being our theme, the children were speculating that the people working on the playground are going to dig up treasure! One of the children said, “I bet they will find some gold because they have shovels and they are doing to dig in the dirt!” Another child asked if the workers will share the treasure with us. It was cute hearing that but the truth is, they are working on the hill of our playground.
We made a Dd word list, we learned new sight words (you, and). We practiced writing letters on the laminated alphabet chart, we practiced writing the letter, Dd, and we wrote pirate words. We searched for the letter Dd in the treasure chest. They did a dictation, “If I Were a Pirate, I would…” and they would tell me their answers and they drew a picture.
We recited the numbers on the 100 Days of School chart, we did a treasure count activity, we did a count and clip activity, the children did a number recognition activity where they had to say what the number was and count out gems. They practiced writing numbers and they did an activity where they had to subitize how many coins they saw on the cards.
The children did an activity where they used a hole punch to punch holes leading the ship to the treasure. This activity is great to help them strengthen the muscles in their hands.
We made a pirate, treasure map, pirate hat, and a parrot this week. They had so much fun making their art projects and they were eager to show off their pirate hats and pirates to their families! We had music with Ms. Mel and we had so much fun singing, dancing, and acting silly! We love it when we have music day!
Please make sure your children are wearing proper footwear such as tennis shoes because when it rains, they tend to fall when they are running and it makes it hard for them to climb on the bow tie and rock wall.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!
