It’s pirates week throughout the center and in our room, many of our activities were centered around the water.  They stuck tissue paper to a contact paper ship, painted a poster board the color blue, used fish stickers on paper, and played with boats in water.  Fine motor activities included dropping cars at the end of a long cardboard tube and watching them come out the other side, pounding benches, fitting pipe cleaners into holes of a strainer, coloring with chalk, and building with blocks.  They have played outside with the push carts and watched bubbles float all around them.  The busy boxes were a big hit with the younger babies as they watched the animals pop up from inside of them.  We have been working on rolling balls back and forth between friends and teachers and had a spontaneous pretend picnic in the classroom as they piled plates high with food and gave it to us to eat.  Loving on baby dolls are what our oldest children have been playing with primarily this week and as always, many new developmental skills are being worked on by all of the children with the biggest one right now, pulling up and sitting back down.  They made music with shakers and spoons in bowls while dancing to new music that we have played in the classroom.  It has been a great week of play and learning and we can’t wait until next week for some more.
