Our theme for this week is Nursery Rhymes and we recited some nursery rhymes this week.  We talked about which ones were our favorite and it was between Itsy, Bitsy Spider and Twinkle, Twinkle.  I brought in my items from when I taught young toddlers and they loved it!  They said their favorite was “Mouse in the House”  It was something I made up to help the children learn their colors but the PreK 2 children loved it because they had to guess which color house the mouse was in.  I had quite a few nursery rhymes cards that I recited to them and they didn’t know some of them. Some of them remembered from previous classrooms or their families told them.  It was a fun week and I think they had a lot of fun!

We dictated which nursery rhyme is our favorite and they drew a picture of that nursery rhyme.  The children practiced writing the letter Ff using dry erase marker, we did felt board nursery rhymes, we did an Itsy, Bitsy Spider felt board sequencing, and they practiced writing and recognizing letters, and they also had to find the missing letter.

The children learned how to subitize by finding 5 dots on dominoes, they counted the dots on dominoes by using 1:1 correspondence.  They used number cards to count the number of pumpkin seeds, we did a Mary Had a Little Lamb count and clip cards, they had to find the missing number up to 20 or up to 10.  They did a Spider Ten Frames activity.  They also practiced writing 5 five using unifex cubes.

The children learned about the pumpkin life cycle and they learned that we can eat pumpkins because we can eat the seeds and we eat pumpkin pie.  We watched a short video on how pumpkins grow.  We painted and made a Jack-O-Lantern in art, we did a Hickory, Dickory Dock where they glued all the pieces and mouse to the clock, and we did a 1, 2, 3,4, 5 art project where they got to choose how they wanted to create it but they had to include the numbers.

We talked about classroom rules because some of our friends were running in the classroom which is not safe and we talked about how we can trip and fall.  We talked about kindness in the classroom as well because we had a few friends not being kind to others.  I gave the children scenarios and they had to tell me what ways they can make it better for the next time.

We had School Age Day where the school age children came for the day because they did not have school.  We introduced ourselves to each other and we played a game where we got to know each other.  We refreshed their memory on the  rules and they helped the PreK 2 children with the activities that I had planned for the day.  They talked about school and what they are learning.  I think everyone had a great day!
