It’s been a week all about numbers and though our babies obviously don’t understand this concept yet, we make counting numbers part of our everyday learning environment. We count when we stack blocks to see how high they can make their tower and we count how many crackers we give them for snack, and those are just two of the ways that we use numbers everyday. Hearing them out loud will help them as they get older so this week has been a great way to incorporate more of this concept. Art had them use dabbers on paper with numbers on them and they glued numbers to another piece of paper. They dropped numbered beanbags into a bin and rings into containers. Pounding benches and nesting cups helped them practice fine motor skills while using push toys outside is working on developing gross motor skills. Puzzles and matching lids to bowls has worked on their cognitive skills. We put some of our younger children in high chairs and gave them ice to explore on the tray. Lots of fun interactive games like “This Little Piggy” was enjoyed and listening to songs and books about numbers was a big hit for all! Developmental skills are being worked on with some achieving success in what they have been trying to do for awhile now and we are all celebrating with them. Numbers everywhere has been the theme and now we are on to the next with Around the World, wonder what we will see!
