Numbers are everywhere!  We see numbers on mailboxes, on houses, on our wall, on money, etc.  This is our theme for the week.  We talked about how numbers don’t end and we learned that its called infinity.  We are always using numbers because as the children told me this week, that they are either 4 or 5 years old and we use numbers to count.  We talked about where else we see numbers and the children were able to name things such as license plates, They learned the names of numbers (one, two, three…) and they asked questions about numbers.  They were asking is trillion, gazillion, nine- ten (90) a number.  We had a long discussion about it and I showed them what the numbers would look like and they were in awe!  I think its safe to say that they seemed to like learning about numbers and they were counting as high as they could this week.

We practiced writing names of numbers, we practiced writing numbers in numeral form, the children practiced writing the letter Gg.  They did a letter recognition activity where they had to tell their peer what the letter is.  The children played a matching game where they had to match names of the letters.  They did a retell story of Five Little Pumpkins in their own words and I wrote down what they said.

We recited numbers as high as we could, we practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, we did number recognition up to 15,  and they put number cards on the number lime.  They did an activity where they used unifex cubes to count.  This activity helps them count slow using their finger pointing to each unifex cube they are counting.

They did a numbers project where they picked a number and number word and they glued them onto black construction paper.  They did a Five Little Pumpkins art project.  They did a 100 Angry Ants art project where they used an ink pad to make ants with their pointer finger.  After that, they made little ant legs.

We practiced our cutting skills and gluing dots onto paper.  Some of the children were struggling holding the scissors the correct way and they were using too much glue.  I taught them just a dot, not a lot when they were making glue dots.  These activities that the children did are great for fine motor and it strengthens the muscles in their hands.

I will be sending out an email about our Halloween Celebration next week so watch out for that.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!
