Sing it like Sister Sledge…. We are FAMILY! This week was all about our families! We learned so much about immediate and extended families. In the sensory bin, we have name cards written out and the idea was to “read” the word and then match it up with one of the small, play people. These are the words we “read” all week: mom, dad, sister, brother, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, and cousin. For some of our language activities, we wrote out the same words. We also wrote out the people we live with. Practicing to write names that we know to say is one thing, but writing them is something we don’t do. Some of us are getting really good at our writing skills and the teachers could not be more proud! We also learned about word families (cat, hat, mat, sat and hot, pot, knot, cot….). We saw how endings of words are the same so they are in the same word family. We also did some bear family activities at the math table. We sorted them by color, size and even worked on patterning them. Our block area has had various people parts and the children have been able to mix and match family member body parts and then build houses for them. Our art has been all about coloring our families and drawing where our families live. We also worked our small muscles one day as we did some sticker collages. We had a rain day, but that didn’t stop the fun. We did some ice experiments and worked our big muscles out in the Great Room. We will wrap up our week with playing family board games like Yeti in my Spaghetti and Connect Four.
