This week we started off celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, and the children learned how he helped lead the way for everyone to have equal rights. We modified the terms for the preschoolers by simply saying he helped make sure everyone was kind and shared. Monday in art the children glued together a traffic light by tearing red, yellow and green paper and gluing them to circles on paper, the children learned the history of the man who invented the traffic light, Garret Morgan. In language the children constructed, and traced letters using pipe cleaners., and In math the children engaged in a tie pattern matching activity. Tuesday in art the children painted with a comb and in language they picked a letter out of a basket and practiced writing it on a writing board. In math the children put numbers in order 1-10. Wednesday in art the children painted with bubble wrap and in language they matched lower case letters and in math the children explored creating various patterns with bear counters. Today in art the children painted with sponges and in language they matched each others names.. In math the children used a spinner to tell how many fruit pieces to add to their grid. Tomorrow in art the children will paint with a kitchen scrubber and in language they will look at pictures and dictate a story about it. In math the children will engage in a  memory game matching pictures of famous inventions created by African Americans. This week in the sensory table the children explored water with ice cube trays, animal counters, small tongs, and bottles. We have also been reading books that focused on kindness and stories of the African American cultures. Another book the children enjoyed was, “The Colors of Us,” this book showed the different shades of brown that people can be. We then explored the paint sticks we have of the various colors of people and we talked about how although people have different colors, we are all the same.
