Lakewood Child Care Center

Aloha, welcome to the LCCC island! This week has been all about the Luau and warm thoughts. At the beginning of the week, we discussed what a Luau was. We came to the conclusion that a Luau is a big party with dancing, food and music! We then dove into the Hawaiian culture and watched some videos of hula dancers and the different types of hula there are and we compared the different outfits that the women wore. We learned that the Hula and it’s movements create a story of the people’s past, pretty interesting. Also when reading a book called Punky Aloha, we learned that honey can be used to heal wounds…who would have thought! The children worked on both number and letter recognition activities throughout the week. We took the sensory bin and turned it into a water table and added some shells, rocks and ocean animals. The children put their creative minds to work to create some amazing art work. The children created pineapples, leis, tiki masks and palm trees. We took a step back and continued with our letter of the week which was Rr. We came up with a bunch of Rr words and you can find those on the chalkboard in the back of the room. We got to go outside this week! The friends had a great time playing in the ice and snow and sliding down the hill out on the playground. We will end our week with Hula in the Coola where we will hula dance and play limbo with our friends! We hope you all have a wonderful and fun filled weekend!
