Lakewood Child Care Center

It’s authors week throughout the center and it has been fun reading books from some of these celebrated people that write books for children.  They  watched a story about a very hungry caterpillar play out on our flannel board and listen to a story about not only the animals on a farm, but their babies as well.  They experienced five little monkeys jumping up and down on our hand puppet and listened to a book about Silly Sally with all the fun rhymes throughout.  Pop-up toys and nesting cups were out for some fine motor practice and containers and lids encouraged matching.  The older children worked on making marks on paper with a crayon and manipulated baggies filled with food coloring and cool whip, how fun it is for them to watch the colors blend together and change colors in some instances.  They dropped cars down our large cardboard tube and worked at getting pom poms out of whisks.  Repeating sounds and words back and forth with teachers has been a huge hit this week as many of them have a lot to say!  We have sung songs like “If You’re Happy and You Know It” where they are learning to point to body parts or just move to music they are hearing.  Sensory activities for the youngest babies have included bubbles, listening to wind chimes, and feeling warm and cold rags.  As always, it has been a busy week and so much fun and we can’t wait to see what next week brings.
