Lakewood Child Care Center

It’s pet week and the infant room activities have included those furry four-legged friends that some have in their home.  It has been a fun week to play with puppets that they can explore and we can talk about the sounds they make.  Other activities have included nesting cups, stacking rings, containers and lids, plastic eggs in a tube, and stacking our toy ice cream scoops onto cones.  Peek-a-boo has been played, sometimes initiated by them, and with their friends.  Art has had them coloring, using bingo dabbers, painting with food-colored ice cubes, and placing stickers on paper.  Balls and blocks have been in the forefront as many of them are learning to stack and roll a ball forward.  Books have been read, felt board stories have been told, and the sign language cube has been out as they are learning to sign.  Our oldest children are working on activities to prepare them for their upcoming transition to the next room, so spoon usage, walking to the sink after meals, throwing their paper towel away, and generally just sitting upright in a chair for meals, have all been practiced and will continue to be worked on over the next several months.  They are also figuring out how to use their toothbrushes the right way!  Cleaning up toys is a two-fold activity – our older children use it as a transition to the next activity or meal that is coming up and our slightly younger children are learning to let go of toys into containers.  Music helps this along.  A week full of animals and learning new skills – next week should be just as exciting!
