Lakewood Child Care Center

This week was all about the pets we have and pets we would love to have if we could have ANYTHING! Miss Tara told the class she has always wanted an otter, but perhaps that is not the best pet to have in a house! We heard all about boys and girls wanting hamsters, cats and more and more dogs. We all agreed that a giraffe would be too tall and an elephant would be too big. We graphed the pets we already have in our houses and it looks like most of us have dogs and only one person has chickens…Miss Chasity! For art, we painted with feathers, “walked” animals through paint and made a goldfish in a fish bowl. Our math has been patterning with feathers, fishing for numbers and a listening game to see which shape bone to pick up when the dog asks for it. Some language activities have been to find the hidden letters in the bird nest and “read it, build it, write it” with pet words. Our sensory bin has turned into one big fishbowl complete with fish, frogs and nets. In the drama area, we added some small dogs to pretend we are at a rescue or animal shelter. We are learning how to take care of animals like giving them food and water and making sure they are comfortable with beds to sleep in and toys to play with. We got outside this week, even with the crazy weather! Will it snow? Sleet? Rain? It doesn’t matter because we will be out in it! This class really enjoys their outdoor time. We started circus practice this week! We are off to a great start with lots of enthusiasm and interest in being all of the acts! We look forward to getting out the costumes and being more prepared to perform in the sold-out show!
