Old MacDonald had a farm, and we think that is awesome! We did so much research about farms this week, including who lives on a farm, what grows on a farm and what happens to the goods when they get packaged up to go to the stores. We discussed the importance of the farmer and how we need farms to eat good food! We read several stories about different farms and saw real life farms when we did some YouTube virtual visits on farms. We also got in a little Blippi and he showed us how to milk a real cow. We then “milked” a cow with a small set-up in our science area with a propped stick and small holes poled in a rubber glove (filled with water). We got the idea of how it is done! For some art projects, we used eye droppers to make “dots” on a cow and drew some pictures of animals on a farm. We did a language dictation if we were real farmers, what we would have and what we would do on our own farm. For math, we did some roll and cover, adding numbers on dice. We also practiced our writing skills when we copied farm words like: cow, horse, barn, hay, and chickens. Our sensory bin was filled with corn and oatmeal and several different farm animals. Swim day was on Wednesday where we had a dance party on our towels. Our field trips this week included animals too! On Tuesday, we went to the zoo and had the most perfect weather. We saw so many animals! Sadly, so many animals were napping when we saw them, but we still had fun! Thursday was all about Botanical Gardens where we saw butterflies and turtles and so many bugs! We will wrap up our week with making some pig art and singing BINGO and playing The Farmer in the Dell.
