Lakewood Child Care Center

It has been a fun week of exploring activities and working with farm related toys and materials in the classroom. Monday in art the children painted fingerprint sheep, and in math they add corn kernels to a cob and used a die to tell how many to add. In language the children rolled a letter die, and needed to place a small duck on the matching number barn. Tuesday in art the children explored milking a cow!! Paint was put into a glove and we attached it to a broomstick handle, and had it hanging above the table. The children then squeezed the glove udder to see what it’s like to milk a cow. In math the children explored a number sense activity with chickens! There were 10 chicken coops with the number on each, and sets of eggs and the children needed to count the number of eggs to see which chicken coop it went into. They also matched the numbered chicken to the coop. In language the children did some farm poetry where they dictated simple things about an animal of choice like what color, what it smells, what it feels and what it can do; so many creative and fun responses. Wednesday in art the children were given several colors of paper: red, brown, white, yellow and green and were shown a picture of a farm. They were then encouraged to create their own farm using the colors and cutting into the shape/.size they wanted to glue onto some paper. In math the children rolled a die to see what number barn to find and cover. In language the children worked on their rhyming skills as they matched haystacks that rhymed! Today in art the children did some painting with pigs! In math the children did a farm to table sequencing activity; they were given pictures such as milk and they needed to put in order of how its made and all the steps taken to get to the store and on the table. In language the children matched upper case letter pigs to the lower case mud puddle. It was also a swim day, and so fun today when we got to play in the hose water, lots of splashing and fun!!Tomorrow in art the children will do some sponge spotting painting and in math the children will put farm puzzles together by putting the strips in number order to see what picture it makes. In language the children will dictate what they would have on their farm. In the block area this week we added some farm construction pieces like a fence, and parts to construct a barn, with farm animals. In the sensory table this week the children washed fruits and veggies in soapy water.
