This week, we explored Farm across all areas of development—and it was a hit with our young toddlers!
Language Development:
We read farm-themed books, placed animals on felt boards, practiced animal sounds using dice, and even sang “Bingo” using the children’s names! We also explored foam letters and matched baby animals to their grown-up counterparts—so much fun and learning in one!
Math Skills:
We worked on sorting and counting by manipulating vegetable counters with spoons and bowls. One of our favorite games was finding cows hidden among other black and white animals!
Science Exploration:
We compared the sounds made by different rattles, encouraging curiosity and active listening.
Motor Development:
For gross motor fun, we galloped like horses and moved like different animals to music on the patio. For fine motor skills, we “milked” gloves filled with water, pressed play-doh with cookie cutters, and strengthened little fingers through all that squishy fun.
Social & Emotional Growth:
We created faces that matched emotions we rolled on the dice and worked as a team to “herd” animals into the barnyard—practicing cooperation and recognizing feelings.
Health & Safety:
We reviewed handwashing and danced our hearts out to favorites like Space Jam, Let It Go!, and The Family Madrigal—all while staying active and learning about staying clean and healthy.
Art Adventures:
We got creative by gluing toothpicks onto barns, painting pigs with muddy brown paint, making cow prints with black paper on white, and adding cotton ball “wool” to our sheep collages. Our classroom looked like a mini farm art gallery!
Looking Ahead to Tomorrow:
- Language: Writing on dry erase boards with markers
- Math: Counting colorful plastic eggs
- Health & Safety: Learning about pool safety
- Motor Development: Playing Farmer in the Dell
- Social Studies: Standing up during circle time based on the colors we’re wearing
- Art: Painting with forks to make scratchy “chicken scratch” textures
