It has been a theme that centers all around them and what makes them who they are.  We have had some fun books out about feelings, family dynamics, as well as physical attributes, such as hair and eye color, how many fingers and toes as well as if they have teeth or not.  There has been a lot of mirror play and talking about what they see.  They have dropped shaped blocks into the tops of our shape sorters, popsicle sticks into juice bottles, cars and items down a cardboard tube as well as taking items in and out of paper bags.  Some have tried their hand at coloring while others have enjoyed musical instruments that have been out to explore.  We have played peek-a-boo with scarves, sang songs like If your Happy and You Know it, Wheels on the Bus and Old MacDonald.  A couple of our older children are forming signs to use at mealtimes and some of our younger children are mastering consonant sounds and have a lot of fun with back and forth communication with their teachers.  Ball play has been happening, dancing to music has been enjoyed and sitting and watching the weather outside has calmed the fussiness.  We are consistently working on gentle hands as many of our little ones are the same age and are discovering what it means to take something they want, simply because they want it.  It is a work in progress for sure.  We have enjoyed talking about ourselves, listening for our names in songs and watching their world through mirrors in the classroom.  Next week looks to be just as much fun as we venture into the rainforest as our theme.
