It’s rainforest week and the children have had some fun activities centered around it.  They started the week by manipulating baggies with a picture of a chameleon on them and paint inside of them, to watch the chameleon change colors.  We have read books about the jungle and its animals and they have played with puppets of the animals they might find in this environment.  The older children have crawled through a tunnel, chalked on paper at the easel, practiced walking with push carts, and sang some fun songs with fun movements to them.  Our younger children have discovered the fun of our discovery boxes, tried imitating a teacher to play “so big”, and listened to a rain stick make its soothing sounds as they watched the beads fall down.  All have had a chance to explore colorful measuring cups along with pans and plates to try and “make” some yummy food, while some liked that they could place items inside of the cups and shake them or they could just bang them together to listen to the noise that they made.  All are working on some type of developmental skill such as sitting, standing, furniture walking, walking, sitting at the table, and/or using a plate at meals, and it has been so much fun to watch as they start accomplishing these next steps.  They have played with our plush insects and watched Itsy, Bitsy, Spider puppet sing its song, so pretend bug play has been a thing for sure this week.  It has been a fun week of self discovery and new adventures and we all can’t wait to see what next week brings into our classroom.
