Lakewood Child Care Center

It’s dinosaur week throughout the center and we have been busy playing with and listening to stories all about these mighty creatures.  There have been silly books about them as well as some with some realistic looking photo books for the children to explore.  They have crawled through a tunnel, tried their hand at fitting puzzle pieces into the right spaces, colored with crayons, and fit large peg pieces onto a board.  They have watched puppets tell stories and practiced taking items in and out of a paper bag.  All of the babies have had lots of time to practice all their new developmental skills such as rolling, sitting, walking, and signing, and many are busy watching their friends try something and then trying it themselves.  They dropped cars down our cardboard tunnel, figured out that they needed to go get them from the other end, and then come back and try it again.  Our older children are really working hard on using their spoons and love to show off their new skill.  Our youngest babies have been shaking instruments to music, playing peek-a-boo with scarves, watching themselves in a mirror, and listening to stories with their older friends.  There have been a lot of giggles with fun one on one interactions between them and their teachers as well as babies entertaining other babies.  It has been a magical week of love and laughter while we snuggle and talk about the cold outside and we eagerly await next week where we will be immersed in the color white as we learn and explore the different concepts of the season of winter.  Stay tuned to hear all about who eagerly explored snow and about those that are a little more cautious.
