Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate the holiday!  We talked about Hanukkah and some of the children recalled details they learned from previous classrooms  and I read books to the children.  We discussed what we read and how the holiday is different form what we celebrate.  The children said that they have a menorah with 9 candles and the candle in the middle is the helper candle.  The helper candle lights the other candles and they celebrate for 8 days.

We worked on letter sounds, sight word recognition, coming up with  a list of Oo words.  We practiced writing sight words that we have learned so far and we recalled details on what we learned about Cheetahs so far.  We did some recalling after i read books to the children to see what details they remembered because some children have a hard time remembering details.

We did a number recognition activity where they had to tell me what the number was that I pointed to.  They played Sorry where they picked a card and counted out the number of space and they played Connect Four.  We stacked 14 blocks trying not to knock the blocks over and the children said it was hard!  They practiced counting 1:! using their pointer finger and courting slowly.

Mr. Pete from Panzica Construction came and spoke with the children about the construction that is going on in the empty field next to us.  We got to see blueprints and pictures!  The children received a coloring book and two pieces of candy!  Thank you so much, Mr. Pete!  We learned a lot and we cannot wait to see the construction unfold in the months ahead!

They did a watercolor dreidel, drew pictures of cheetahs, and they made a Star of David in art.  The children also drew pictures for their families and they wanted them to go with their Christmas present they are giving to their families.

We had so much fun on Polar Express Day because as the children started, we got to wear our pajamas to school, eat cookies, and drink hot chocolate while watching the movie!  They told us it was the BEST DAY ever!

Speaking of that, Sparkles, our classroom elf had to leave the day before Polar Express Day because Santa Claus  and his elf friends needed his help getting things ready for Christmas so the children were able to take turns carrying him around in his tube and telling him their last minute Christmas wish list.

We have a short week next week and the children do not need their naps bags because next week is School Age Days!
