This week’s theme focused on art and colors 🎨and the children explored painting, drawing, textures, and creativity through hands-on experiences across all areas of development.
🗣 Language Development
We read Mouse Paint and other board books about colors and shapes, introducing new words such as paint, color, and art. The children practiced naming colors during art play, explored colors and shapes on the flannel board, and reviewed art-related words using real tools like brushes, crayons, and sponges.
🔢 Math Development
In math, the children sorted crayons by color, counted paint dots from 1–3, and compared big and small paint marks—building early counting, sorting, and comparison skills through creative play.
🧪 Science
Our young artists became little scientists as they mixed colors using finger paint, observed what happened when water touched chalk, and explored different textures such as smooth paper, bumpy cardboard, and shiny foil.
❤️ Health & Safety
We talked about wearing smocks to protect our clothes, practiced handwashing after art activities, and learned how to safely use art tools—keeping crayons and materials where they belong.
✋ Fine Motor Development
The children strengthened their fine motor skills by scribbling with chunky crayons, using stickers, and creating designs with dot markers—helping build hand strength and coordination.
🏃 Large Motor Development
We used our whole bodies during art by painting with long arm movements, dancing while drawing to music, and rolling large balls through paint on paper—combining creativity with movement.
😊 Social & Emotional Development
During art activities, the children practiced taking turns and worked on using words or signs such as “my turn” and “all done,” supporting communication and cooperation.
🌎 Social Studies
We looked at photos of different artists creating art and talked about how everyone can make art in their own unique way.
🎶 Creative Arts
- Art: Finger painting with primary colors, sponge painting, and painting on foil and cardboard
- Music: Drawing while listening to different types of music and shaking rhythm instruments while making marks
It’s been a colorful, creative week full of exploration, expression, and fun! 💛🎨
