Happy Valentine’s Day from PreK 2!  The children had so much fun this week learning about how Valentine’s Day came about and why we celebrate it.  They learned that it’s not only a day for love and kindness but it goes back to Ancient Rome where someone drew a name out of container and that is the person they are supposed to marry and they learned that someone name Valentine gave a card to someone and wrote, “Form your Valentine” which is what we know today.  The children got to put frosting and sprinkles on a cookie, we passed out Valentine’s cards to our friends, and we had our Valentine Celebration after nap!  It was a huge success!

We made a Tt lists of words, practiced writing sight words  They cut out hearts and wrote, “I love you, Mom and Dad:”, They did a heart matching game with uppercase letters and lowercase letters,  They made letters using sweetharts candy and heart alphabet letters, and they played a matching game using the alphabet hearts.

We learned how to figure out if the number is greater than, less than, or equal.  We made number using sweetarts candy and the number cards.  They matched the heart numbers, put them in order, and they played a heart number matching game.  The children played a memory game and they also played with sticks game where they had to carefully remove a stick and not let the balls fall down.  Very similar to Kerplunk game.

We made a heart worm that spelled out their name, heart wreath and the children wanted to make Valentine’s cards for their parents.  They were cutting the hearts out and writing I love you on them.

We continued our Water discussion where they were asked how can water change?  We learned that water is not only liquid but it can be solid, gas, and evaporate to make clouds.  The children learned about the water cycle where they were told that when snow and ice melts, it evaporates and goes to the sky.  They were told that when the clouds get heavy, it can turn into rain, snow, sleet, and hail.  The cycle does not stop.  We cannot to see what else we can learn about Water!
