My sparkly teeth and me! This week was all about dental health. We began the week by asking the children if they brushed their teeth in the morning. We learned that we need to brush our teeth twice a day for 2 minutes. We learned that a cavity is a hole in our tooth caused by eating sticky foods and not brushing properly. We learned about each type of tooth…we have our incisors, canines, premolars and molars. Did you know not everyone get wisdom teeth too…fun fact. We also had some short discussions about another specialist…an orthodontist and what braces are for as well as when people lose their teeth, they can get fake ones called dentures. This week at the language table, the children worked on letter recognition activities, writing, rhyming and dental BINGO. At the math table, the children worked on number recognition, graphing, and measuring. The children practiced brushing their teeth at the science table with some fake teeth, a marker and toothbrushes. They also learned how to brush their teeth from the singing dentist who sang “This is how we brush teeth” which is a parody to “This is how we do it.” At the art table this week, the children worked on painting a tooth with a toothbrush, creating their own toothbrush with construction paper, drawing their version of a tooth fairy and using floss to paint. We took a step back from learning about teeth, cavities, and all the different tools and worked on our letter of the week which was Tt. We came up with Tt words and read a Tt book. Many of our friends must have known that it was dental health week because we had a few friends visit the dentist! Please if your child has not been to the dentist…it’s time for a check up! 🙂 We hope the children enjoyed learning more about their teeth and how to brush and will continue to brush morning and night. We hope that you all are enjoying this wonderful weather we are having because we have been out each day…three times a day!!  Hope you all have a fun and safe weekend.
