The theme for the week is St. Patrick’s and it has us all seeing green. The children stuck pieces of green tissue paper to a contact paper shamrock and they had the opportunity to use green and yellow crayons on paper. As they were stacking rings onto a post, we named the colors they were seeing, paying special attention to the green ones. We read some fun books about the holiday and listened to some Irish folk music. They shook bottles that had gold coins in them, they loved the loud sounds they made! Bean bags were out to explore and we had them practice tossing them into a basket, then taking them back out again. They experimented mixing yellow and blue paint together to make green and stuck shamrocks to paper with glue. The older children are starting to recognize their families on the door and enjoy pointing out mama and dada. All of the babies watched as our pull and go animals zipped across the floor and our older children would bring them back to us, to make it happen again, there were lots of smiles and giggles. They watched bubbles and puppets, played peek-a-boo with blankets, and dropped rings into small containers. It has been a busy week, with the color green as the central theme, and next week promises to bring more discovery and exploration. As the weather continues to change, we will have lots of conversations about what they are seeing outside while we sit by our big window, so next week should have a lot of that as well, how exciting for them!
