Summer is officially here, and even though the weather didn’t always cooperate, our week was still filled with excitement, learning, and plenty of smiles. We began by talking about our summer plans and all the fun things the children are looking forward to.

As part of our Kindness project, we also discussed our kindness rocks and brainstormed what positive words or pictures we could paint on them—ideas like “Be Kind,” “You Matter,” smiley faces, hearts, and sunshine. We talked about where we might place our kindness rocks once they’re finished so others can find them and feel encouraged.

This led to an important conversation about being kind to our friends, especially since some friends had been using their hands to push or using potty words. Together, we talked about how our words and actions make others feel, and the children shared ideas about using gentle hands, choosing respectful language, and showing kindness throughout the day.

One of the biggest skills we practiced this week was using our words when we see someone not being kind. We worked on saying things like “Please stop,” “I don’t like that,” and “That’s not kind,” helping the children learn how to speak up respectfully and take care of their friends.

Even though we had to cancel water play due to the chilly temperatures, we didn’t let that slow us down. We enjoyed a wonderful trip to Huntington Beach Reservation, where the children played on the playground, explored with field toys, and took a short walk to admire the beautiful view of Lake Erie.

Later in the week, we visited the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, which was a huge hit. The children explored dinosaur bones, learned that we are made of stardust, and tried a plate tectonic simulator that showed what happens when two plates move against each other during an earthquake. There was so much to see and do that it’s hard to name it all, but the children were fully engaged and fascinated by every part of the museum.

We wrapped up our week with art time with Ms. Joanne, where the children created their own magnets to take home. It was a fun and creative way to end a busy week of learning, exploration, and summer excitement.!

Next week is our Mud Day!  We are so excited to play with water and dirt.  Please make sure your child comes in with their swimsuit on, they must have a change of clothes, towel, and a bag for their wet stuff.    We will be gong to South Mastick Park and there is no field trip on Friday because we are closed for the 4th of July holiday.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!

Have a happy 4th of July!
