This week we celebrated America turning 250 years old, and the children had such a wonderful time learning about how our country came to be. We explored the story of Independence Day — why we celebrate it each year, how the colonies became the United States, and the meaning behind our freedoms.

The kids especially enjoyed learning about the evolution of the American flag, from Betsy Ross’s very first design to the flag we proudly fly today. Their curiosity made every discussion lively and engaging.

We also took a fun trip to South Mastick Park, where the children:

  • played on the playground
  • walked along a beautiful trail
  • enjoyed board games
  • played field games together

It was a hot day, so we stayed hydrated and took plenty of water breaks. Even with the heat, the children had a great time exploring, playing, and enjoying the outdoors.

Back in the classroom, Ms. Joanne led a weaving paper art activity, and the children absolutely loved it. They were so focused as they chose their colors, practiced weaving the strips, and proudly showed off their finished artwork. It was a wonderful hands‑on project that let them be creative while practicing fine motor skills.

We also celebrated Mud Day, and it was a huge success. The children had the option to play in the mud and/or water — and they fully embraced the fun. There were muddy hands, big smiles, splashes, laughter, and pure joy. It was messy in the best possible way, and the kids enjoyed every minute of it.

To wrap up the week, we talked about everyone’s plans for the 4th of July. The kids are buzzing with excitement about fireworks, family time, and all the celebrations ahead.

Wishing all our families a joyful and safe Independence Day!
