It’s Friends week and in our room it has been a great way to teach gentle hands and bodies to all of our older children, explaining that we need to be nice to our friends and to figure out different ways to channel our frustration and big feelings. We have had a lot of fun fine motor activities including figuring out how to drop sticks into a juice bottle, attaching tissue paper to a contact paper flower, shaking two shakers at one time, and using crayons on paper. They have watched puppets and heard a lot of different stories. They all have enjoyed watching bubbles float around the room and many of our older children are now letting us know they can say the word “bubble”. Nesting cups were out and while we sat with them, they showed us different ways they could stack them and then are now clapping for themselves once they have accomplished their goal. Our older children are working hard on getting into their chairs for meals, using a spoon by themselves, coming when called to wash their hands and throwing their paper towel away when finished. Our younger babies are practicing sitting, rolling over, reaching, and chewing and eating new foods. As we say goodbye to a couple of our toddlers that are moving to the next room, we will be welcoming several new babies that will give the children new friends to discover and interact with every day. What a great theme to help practice goodbyes and hellos while also learning to be kind. Next week, a whole lot of new adventures begin!
