We introduced the theme with a large “back to School banner with various school materials on it, new materials and familiar materials. The children have the opportunity to come up and point to what they know and name it, and new materials to learn.

Art

Monday- Roller paint with a school bus on white paper with yellow paint

Tuesday-Pencil- glued materials together to resemble a pencil

Wednesday-  Apple-Paint paper plate red and added green stems

Thursday-Apple stamping on paper with a real apple

Friday- Cork stamping with yellow, green and red paint

Math

The children worked with various materials related to back to school theme, and things we do in school. The children practiced their counting and number recognition with apple number craft sticks and play-dough while naming the numbers they recognize, counting with crayons by placing them in the crayon box one at a time counting as high as they can,pencil and jar counting while placing each pencil in a large open container, and number apple/fall Velcro cards on felt board.

Motor Development

Other activities the children worked with at the manipulative table to build and strengthen their coordination, grasp, strength and manipulation are; pencil school zipper bags to practice zipping and unzipping while placing school cards inside, balancing pom-poms on pool noodles using bamboo tongs, various hair care rollers and sizes to manipulate to fit together, and jumbo clips to practice open and close motions, and pom-pom dress up cards by organizing by color with tongs to form the picture animal.
