What a wonderful week we have had in our classroom! The children have been settling in nicely and becoming more comfortable with their new classroom, friends, teachers, and daily routines. As they continue to adjust, we are slowly adding new elements to our routine, such as our Letter and Number of the Week and calendar during circle time. Introducing these routines gradually allows the children to become familiar with our classroom schedule while creating opportunities for fun and meaningful learning.

This week, our focus was on the letter Aa and the number 0 (zero). We made a lists of Aa words.  The children practiced letter recognition by looking at letters and verbally stating what the letter was. They also practiced matching uppercase letters, helping to strengthen their recognition and familiarity with the alphabet. For number recognition, the children practiced identifying numbers and saying them aloud. They enjoyed hands-on activities, including creating patterns with bear counters and tracing numbers using bear and frog counters. These activities gave the children opportunities to practice early literacy and math skills while also developing their fine-motor skills through hands-on exploration.

We have also started incorporating our calendar during circle time. This gives us an opportunity to come together as a group, learn about the day and date, and begin building an understanding of our daily classroom routines and the concept of time.

Our theme this week has been “All About Me.” This theme has provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to share more about themselves and learn about their classmates. The children were asked a variety of questions about themselves, and their responses were dictated and recorded on our special “All About Me” banner. It was wonderful to hear their individual answers and learn more about their interests, likes, and experiences.

The children also enjoyed drawing pictures of themselves and their families. Through their drawings, they were able to express their creativity while sharing about the people who are important in their lives. These activities encouraged conversation, self-expression, and a sense of belonging as the children began to learn more about one another.

It has been a lovely start to our time together, and we are excited to continue building relationships, establishing routines, and introducing new learning experiences as the children grow in confidence. We look forward to another wonderful week of learning, exploring, and having fun together!

A Few Reminders: The Center will be closed on Monday in observance of the Labor Day holiday. We hope everyone enjoys a safe and relaxing long weekend!

When we return, we will be exploring our new theme, “Rainforest/Jungle!” The children will have lots of opportunities to learn about rainforest and jungle animals, plants, sounds, and habitats through exciting, hands-on activities and exploration. We can’t wait to see where our jungle adventure takes us!
