We had so much fun learning all about the rainforest and jungle this week!  Our classroom was filled with curiosity and excitement as we explored the amazing animals that call the rainforest home.

We learned about the different layers of the rainforest—the emergent layer, canopy, understory, and forest floor—and discovered where different animals live within these layers. The children loved learning how each animal is suited to its special rainforest habitat!

We had lots of fun with literacy this week! The children created a Bb word list, practicing identifying the letter B, saying the sound it makes, and coming up with words that begin with B. Our sight words this week were I and see, which the children practiced recognizing throughout our activities. We also played a Rainforest Letter Matching Game, where the children practiced matching letters and strengthening their letter-recognition skills while naming different rainforest animals. During our “Who Am I?” Rainforest Animal Game, the children practiced speaking and listening by giving their peers clues about a rainforest animal and having their partner guess which animal they were describing.

We brought our rainforest theme into our math activities, too! The children played a Rainforest Matching Game, practicing their matching and observation skills while having fun with our animal theme.

We also measured pictures of rainforest animals using Unifix cubes. The children compared the animals and discovered which pictures were longer or shorter as they practiced measuring with a non-standard unit.

During our Rainforest Patterning Block Activity, the children used blocks to create and continue patterns. This gave them an opportunity to practice recognizing what comes next while developing their problem-solving and early math skills. We also worked on counting using one-to-one correspondence. The children practiced touching or moving one object at a time as they counted, helping them understand that each object gets one number as they count.

Our rainforest theme continued into Art this week! The children created a colorful red-eyed tree frog and a toucan, bringing some of our favorite rainforest animals to life through art. They also had the opportunity to paint their own keychain, allowing them to express their creativity and make something special to take home.

It was a fun-filled week of learning, exploring, creating, and discovering the amazing world of the rainforest! We are so proud of all the wonderful things the children learned, shared, and created this week!
