What a colorful week we had! Our theme this week was Colors, and we had so much fun bringing a little extra brightness to each day.
Each day, we wore a different color, and it was so much fun seeing everyone arrive in their colorful outfits. The children loved noticing what colors their friends were wearing and talking about their favorite colors. Our classroom was filled with bright colors, smiles, and lots of excitement!
Language & Literacy
We had lots of fun building our language and literacy skills this week! We made a list of Cc words and practiced recognizing and using words that begin with the letter C. Our sight words this week were me and too, and we practiced recognizing and using them throughout our activities.
We also practiced writing letters using red dry erase markers on the dry-erase board, giving everyone a chance to work on letter formation while having fun with color. We practiced writing the names of colors and shapes, too.
One of our favorite activities was dictating what our favorite color is and explaining why it is our favorite. It was wonderful to hear everyone’s ideas and reasons! This activity gave us a chance to practice speaking in complete thoughts, sharing our ideas, and listening to our friends.
Math
Our colorful math activities gave us lots of opportunities to practice counting, patterns, shapes, and number recognition! We created patterns with pattern blocks and explored how different shapes and colors can be arranged to make repeating patterns.
We practiced counting blue and brown gems by picking a number card and counting out the correct number of gems. We also traced a red triangle using red bear counters, combining shape recognition with hands-on counting and fine-motor practice.
We worked on naming and identifying 3-D shapes and practiced counting out green circles. Each activity helped us strengthen our math skills while keeping our learning colorful and fun!
Art
Our art projects were full of creativity and, of course, lots of color! We used different shapes to create our very own shape houses, giving us a chance to explore how shapes can be combined to make a picture.
We also created a colorful paper macaw, experimenting with colors while learning about this beautiful bird. One of our favorite projects was our patchwork elephants! We glued colorful squares onto our elephants to create a fun patchwork design. The children enjoyed choosing their colors and creating their own unique elephants.
Science
Science was especially colorful this week! We conducted a fun M&M experiment to explore what happens when the candy’s colors come into contact with water. We watched as the colors began to “melt” and spread across the plate. Then, we shook the plate and made predictions about what would happen when all of the colors came together. We were excited to discover that the colors mixed together and turned brown!
We also experimented with mixing paint colors to see what new colors we could create. The children made predictions, mixed their colors, and observed the changes. It was a wonderful hands-on way to explore how colors can combine to make something new!
Exploring Colors Through Play
Throughout the week, we explored colors in so many different ways—through our clothing, activities, conversations, and play. We practiced naming and identifying colors, made colorful creations, experimented with mixing colors, and discovered just how much fun learning can be when we add a little color!
The best part was seeing the excitement on everyone’s faces each morning as we wondered, “What color are we wearing today?”
It was a bright, cheerful week filled with smiles, creativity, learning, experimenting, and lots of colorful memories. We loved watching our classroom come alive with color!
