It is a fall themed week and the temperatures outside are definitely helping represent this theme. Our older children started their transition to the young toddler room this week so many of our activities have centered on the younger babies and their development. We have sat at the window and labeled everything they were seeing – the leaves blowing by, the animals that are fluttering around, and the toys that are out waiting for them to come explore. Colors have been the focus on many of the activities, specifically red, yellow, green and brown. There has been mirror play, bubbles, and peek-a-boo games, which has brought on many smiles.. The children’s fine motor excitement came from dropping clothespins into bottles and building block towers as high as they could make them. They have crawled after balls and moved smaller, sensory balls in and out of muffin cups. The older children have been practicing hugging baby dolls and being gentle with friends. Art has included stamping and coloring. There have been books read about jumping into piles of leaves and the giggles that come from such a fun fall game. We are happily exploring a different season this week and next week promises to be more fun with the introduction of some of the important people around them in their community and how important their jobs are for everyone.
