The children have enjoyed reading about and discussing all the helpers we see in the community and what they do. In art this week the children painted with yellow and red, they glued a tissue paper collage and have been practicing cutting. Tomorrow the children will do some marble painting and band aid art, In math the children matched fire extinguisher shapes, they explored counting with firefighter tools, they enjoyed a path game of getting the fire truck to the burning house and today they matched community helpers tools to the helper that uses them. Tomorrow the children will make some pom pom stew by drawing cards that tell how many pom poms to add to the pot. In language the children matched lettered fire trucks, they practiced writing fire helper words, they matched a letter to the beginning letter of community helper words and today they dictated what community helper they want to be and why. Tomorrow the children will match letters to a chef hat. In the water table this week the children worked with stacking cups and tactile shells. We added some community nesting buildings to the block area along with community helper vehicles. The children have also been reading a lot about how to take care of books in the book area.
