We have officially completed our 100 Days of School Chart! We had a fun theme this week which was Luau. The children participated in Hula in the Coola with the other classrooms where they learned how to do the hula dance. They also did the limbo. I showed the children where Hawaii was and had them draw a picture of Hawaii after what they had learned about it this week.
We listened to Hawaiian music and watched a video about Hawaii where the children learned that Hawaii was the last state to be admitted to the United States in 1959. They learned from the video that Hawaii is made up of several islands and each island has a name. They also learned that there are some active volcanos which is Mauna Loa. This volcano is the most famous one because it’s the world’s largest volcano!
We did a Tt word list, practiced writing Tt, and practiced writing words associated with Luau. We matched uppercase letters to lowercase letters, we verbally named things that are found in Hawaii, and made the letter Tt using Flexos. We played a game where we had to figure out what letter sounds are associated with the letter and a word.
We counted and stacked 19 blocks, practiced writing letters, practiced counting using real seashells, created new shapes using the pattern blocks, Simple Addition, and we played a matching game.
We made a flower bracelet, a flower collage, and we drew a picture of of a hibiscus flower. We were gonna make a grass skirt but the children decided that they wanted to make a hibiscus flower. I showed them pictures of different fruits found in Hawaii and the ones they recognized were the pineapple and coconut.
We are going on a field trip on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 to see the play, “It’s Okay To Be Different” at the Mimi Ohio Theatre. The day before the play, I will have a talk with the children about what to expect while we are seeing the play and the rules of the bus as well. Please make sure your children are here at the center by 9:00 am so that they can use the restroom before we leave. I will remind you the day before.
Thank you so much for helping us raise money for the WWF! We are $6 shy of making the $60 to help the Snow Leopards! The children are asking me daily if we have met our goal and I have been keeping them updated.
