This week was all about pets! We learned all about who has what at home! It seems there are a lot of dogs at our pre-k houses. Some families have more than one pet, but no one has more than Miss Chasity! She has 4 dogs, 1 cat and over 20 chickens! Whew! That is a lot! We started our own “rescue” in our drama area. We have “cages” for dogs, bottles for feeding and blankets to keep warm. We talked about how to care for a pet, including ones that might need a little extra love. We saw pictures of dogs with missing legs and how they get around with a special dog “wheelchair”. We “adopted” out dogs to families who said they are ready for their “furever” home. The friends were so happy to see a dog get “adopted”, even if they were stuffed dogs and we were pretending! Our art this week consisted of painting with feathers (after we talked about what pet has feathers, what pet has fur). We also made our own pet rocks complete with names and where we want to take our new pet! One of our favorite language activities was using tongs to find letters in a nest to feed our pet “birds”. A math activity was to use a fishing pole and fish out a number written on one of the fish in the bucket. We also sorted dogs, cats, bunnies, guinea pigs, birds, and fish by color, or by how many legs/no legs they have. Our sensory table was filled with water beads and fish! We had a waiting list for this activity all week as it was so much fun! The highlight of our week was our field trip to Emerson kindergarten classrooms! We toured each room and met some new “big” friends! We have had a fun, but very busy week!
