This week, we learned about Recycling and how to take care of our planet by putting trash where they belong. We talked about the 3 R’s which are reduce, reuse, and recycle. They learned different ways how we can help our planet by not using too much of an item or keeping the water on while we are brushing our teeth. The children said another way is to turn lights off if you are not going to be in the room or eat all of your food so that the food does not go to waste. They said to only take what you can eat. It was interesting to hear their responses and what they knew about recycling.
The children dictated what they would do when they see trash on the ground and drew a picture. Most of the children said that they would pick it up and placed it in the recycling bin if it were recyclable or if it’s not recyclable, they would put it in the trash. We practiced writing the letter Rr, reduce, reuse, and recycle. We also made a list of rhyming words that end in -op.
We did a sorting and counting activity with lids. They made letter using the wooden blocks, did a recycling bin pattering, and they sorted the recycling items by identifying if they are compost, aluminum, paper and carboard, and plastic. They counted how each had. We practiced counting by 2’s as high as we can.
For Art, we made an Earth stained glass sun catcher which is on our classroom door and we painted with recyclable objects. The children also helped contribute to the recyclable structure.
We have been practicing for the Circus and the children have been doing very well and they are so excited for the Circus!
