It’s Luau time and what fun the babies have had bringing the tropical vibe into the classroom. We have been listening to different Hawaiian songs while moving ribbons to the music. Our older children tried their hands at stamping with alphabet stamps, hearing the words up and down while they tried it out. They crawled over bubble wrap while feeling the different textures. The pounding benches, the lacing toys, and nesting cups have been the fine motor activities for this week. We watched the electric aquarium fish move back and forth and several of our children finally had the opportunity of going outside again. The push cart is being used often as many are practicing their newly developing standing and walking skills. They have gotten hand over hand practice using spoons, making motions to songs and forming different signs that they are learning. Balls of tape were handed out as a sensory activity – big hit with some but not with all. The smaller babies are practicing tummy time, watching themselves in a mirror, putting weight on their feet as we hold them in a standing position and watching critters outside as we talk to them about what they are seeing. There will be some fun luau activities in the Great Room for all the children to enjoy at one time, where the limbo will be played and learning how to hula dance is a highlight. This week is a fun way to know that warmer weather is inching closer but we can always enjoy it indoors!
