Lakewood Child Care Center

It has been a week of green, shamrocks and leprechauns as we celebrate St Patrick’s day throughout the center.  We have read books and listened to music that celebrates this festive day.  Our older children have had the opportunity to play outside which has been wonderful for them to get out and practice all their new gross motor skills that have been developing here lately.  Inside the classroom, they tried their hand at sticking cotton balls to a contact paper sheep, they finger painted at the easel, chalked on chalkboards, watched bubbles, and danced with ribbons.  Our younger babies, sat in a highchair and moved their hands up and down over a baggie filled with paint so they could watch the paint move and change colors.  They all watched as puppets told some fantastic stories and then they played with the puppets in their own way.  Stacking blocks and knocking them down again is so much fun right now!  We are working on safe, kind, and gentle touches with our older children and having them practice their sign language with those hands instead.  Hugging baby dolls, pointing to body parts and looking for friends when they hear their name in a song, are all fun activities that have incorporated into this week as well.  We have had a lot of fun with hide and seek games and generally learning to move and next week promises to bring more giggles and learning!
