The children have been engaging in Easter themed activities and they are getting excited for the Easter bunny to come! Monday in art the children explored marbled shaving cream painting where they swirled acrylic paint into shaving cream, pressed paper on top and then used a squeegee to glide the excess off. In language the children matched egg halves of the letter to a picture of the word of that letter i.e. i-igloo. Good focus on beginning letter sounds. In math the children worked with plastic eggs and ten frames, they picked a ten frame to see how many eggs to stack. Tuesday in art the children did some tape and chalk art where they put wash tape on an egg, then dipped their chalk in water to color the egg and when done they peeled the tape to see the end creation. In language the children engaged in a roll n’ cover letter where they rolled a letter die and needed to find the letter on a basket, and cover the letter with an egg. In math the children graphed jelly beans to see which color had the most and which color had the least. Yesterday for language the children did some pre-writing work. They rolled a die with various designs: lines, zig zags, squiggles, dots and small circles. They rolled the die and the design it landed on was the design they wrote on an egg, we hung up their egg creations on the windows, check em’ out! In math the children explored egg patterns on a grid. They looked at a pattern of eggs on a small grid and then needed to copy the pattern on a larger grid. Today in art the children will explore bleeding tissue art. They will put tissue squares on paper and then spray the tissue with water. Once dry they will peel off the tissue to see what they created. In language the children will practice lower case letter writing and in math the children will explore more and less with jelly beans. For example, they will start with 10, and then see what one more looks like, and what one less looks like, and they will try different numbers; a visual math experience. Tomorrow in art the children will make sun catchers, adding tissue paper to contact paper and in language they will match lettered eggs. In math the children will measure chicken legs with cheerios! In the sensory table this week the children worked with colorful Easter grass, small bunnies, baskets and eggs. In the block area the children were happy to see we added a dollhouse to the area, so fun!
