Lakewood Child Care Center

This week we are learning about what is in a garden and how to take care of what we are growing. Monday in art the children created a greenhouse by decorating it with markers and attached a plastic bag for the window with a seed in it, then the children displayed the greenhouses in drama to watch the seeds grow. In language the children matched lettered flower petals to the flower and in math the children sequenced the order of planting using pictures and words. Tuesday in art the children created flower prints by painting with soda bottles and in language the children traced letters with seeds. In math the children engaged in a flower matching game. Wednesday in art the children glued together the parts of a flower and painted it’s petals. In language the children wrote their name on a flower and in math the children put flowers in order by size from either big to small or small to big. Today in art the children explored painting with Q-tips and in language they dictated what a garden needs to help things grow. In math the children graphed what their favorite vegetable is. Tomorrow in art the children will paint with fake worms and in language they will do more name writing practice. In math the children will count worms. In the sensory table this week the children explored water with watering cans, small plastic flower pots and flower parts. In the block area the children worked with tree rings, small plastic pots and artificial flowers. The children have also been busy working in the office that has been set up in drama. Thank you to all the families that donated office supplies. The children have been working on their computers, taking phone calls, writing notes and talking with each other about the work they are doing. So busy!
