Grow! Grow! Grow! this week was all about gardening. We started this week off by discussing what we need in order to plant a garden. The consensus was that we need soil, seeds, and water. From there we discussed how many of our friends have gardens of their own and I am happy to say that almost half of our class has a garden of either vegetables or flowers. This week at the math table the children worked on number recognition activities as well as measuring. At the language table the children worked on letter recognition and their writing skills. At the art table, the children became little artist by creating a piece using seeds, flowers using craft rolls and flowers using contact and tissue paper. The children also created their own garden using their fingerprints and stamp pads. At the science table the children played with building blocks and we also put a little experiment there. Way back when we did the walking rainbow experiment with paper towels and the color of the water turned the paper towel that color. We did kind of the same thing but this time we used celery. On Friday we will see if the celery soaked up the colored water and possibly turned that color. In the sensory bin, the children played with dirt, beans, fake vegetables and gardening tools. I mean it is gardening week, you have to get a little dirty! Now, don’t be alarmed when walking into the classroom and you see a red/blue light shining down on a box. We officially started our indoor garden. We planed spinach, lettuce, cilantro, chives, basil and tomatoes. We can’t wait to see the progress of what we did! We will end this fun and exciting week with none other than Miss Carly from the Beck Center and music class! We hope that the children had a fun time and enjoyed learning about the garden. With that in mind, we hope that you all have a wonderful and safe long weekend!
