Lakewood Child Care Center

This week has been all about water and the animals that live and make their home in it.  We have sea puppets that have made an appearance several times and the children love to explore them on their own after we have finished singing songs with them.  It has given us a great opportunity to talk about eyes and mouths in something other than people because they are so fascinated by them on the puppets.  They have stamped on paper, danced and moved with shakers and scarves, and dropped rings into containers.  We have soap paint that when their hands get wet they can make some masterpieces by just moving their hands back and forth, and they all enjoy doing just that!  They have watched fish swim by in our pretend light up aquarium, which they all watched intently for some time.  We have read books about fish, dolphins and whales, which they were very interested in listening to while sitting on our laps or sitting in a small group.  They have been practicing block building, dropping shapes into shape sorters, and rolling balls back and forth with a teacher.  Our youngest babies had a chance to practice tummy time with baggies of paint taped to the floor to hold their interest while also building on their reaching skills.  They watched flashlight beams move across the room and listened to the teachers call their names so they could practice responding and turning toward that familiar voice.  We hope to have the chance to go swimming this week where we can play with some of the same animals that we have been talking about all week!  It is been a fun week of water and its animals and next week should bring just as much fun and playfulness!
