Spring time calls for the return of all the bugs and insects. The children have been very interested in this and are always looking fir them outside on the playground, and they have found so many worms!! This week in art the children have made hand print spiders, glued together a ladybug, painted with foam brushes and did some fine motor work to make a tissue paper butterfly. Tomorrow in art the children will paint ladybugs. In math this week the children have matched numbered spots onto the matching ladybug, they made predictions of how many bugs were in a jar and then we counted, they matched the number of insects to the corresponding number on an insect jar they will engage in a bingo bug activity. In language the children practiced writing bug and insect words, they dictated what bugs bug them and why, they explored stencils with pencils and explored a position word activity to place a butterfly in various positions: on the flower, next to the flower, between two flowers and so on. In the water table the children have explored water with bugs and insects, watering cans and bowls. In the block area the children are having fun with the train tracks. In science we added bugs and insects with magnifying glasses and the children have been working with play dough and bug molds. In drama the children are busy busy busy with the babies to feed and take care of them. In the block area we took apart the ramp and the children are incorporating the larger blocks with the unit blocks and we are seeing some amazing, elaborate constructions and we love to see the children working together with these. The art area continues to show interest with the open materials and they are now working to keep their marks from coloring on their paper. The children’s drawings are also getting more creative and today they drew butterflies! The children are also excited to observe the caterpillars we received and they watch each day to see how they are growing.
