This week we had a fun time learning all about transportation and how different vehicles help us. The children now understand that transportation helps us get from one place to another, and they learned that it can happen on land, in the air, or on water. We talked about how each type of vehicle moves, and the children were able to recognize how different these vehicles are from one another. They enjoyed sharing examples of vehicles they have seen before and were excited to talk about which ones they have ridden. This helped them build vocabulary and practice sorting and describing the world around them.
We started off the week by learning how to count by 5s using number cards, and the children were able to put the numbers in order with confidence. The children practiced counting the lines on a road using a toy car, which helped them strengthen their one‑to‑one counting skills. They had so much fun playing the transportation matching game and enjoyed identifying the different vehicles. The children also completed a Creepy Crawler patterning activity, where they worked on recognizing and extending patterns. We finished our math work with simple subtraction problems; I gave them a problem to solve, and they used objects to count and take away to find the answer.
They did a Read It, Build It activity using transportation words, which helped them practice sounding out and building new vocabulary. We also worked on lowercase letter track tracing, where the children used a small car to trace each letter while making its sound. They enjoyed sorting vehicles by land, water, and air, and they practiced writing the names of different vehicles. To build listening and writing skills, we did a dictation on how we can be safe around vehicles, and the children shared thoughtful ideas about safety.
For art, the children used toy cars and white paint to make car tracks on black paper, and they loved seeing the patterns their cars created. We also spent time painting our clay art projects after they dried, adding color and detail to their work. To finish our art activities, the children drew pictures of a vehicle of their choice, using what they learned about transportation to inspire their drawings.
We have been working on our listening ears and some of our friends haven’t been listening to the teachers so we talked about that all week. They were given gentle reminders to always listen to whoever is in the room when Ms. Michelle isn’t.
The children have been practicing hard for the Circus and they are so excited to show their families their acts! Remember it’s on May 15 @ 3:00 pm!
